INTERXITY Boxing Academy has taken back to school 11 of its boxers under.
The Academy has embarked on a back to school programme for its boxers in bid to help them sustain themselves them after the boxing career.
Academy director operations Mubanga Tembo said the boxers were back in school and were uniformed pupils at Libala Basic School.
“When we initially started the academy, we insisted that our boxers should go back to school and we are glad that the project has come to pass; all our boxers under our cards are back to school and it’s an important project for us. They go to school in the morning and afternoon attend their boxing programmes,” he said.
Tembo also challenged other sports associations to emulate their idea.
“This is one area where we want to appeal to our fellow promoters in boxing and other sports associations to emulate. We are not bragging about that. Having an athlete who is educated increases their longevity in the sports because a knowledgeable mind is able to make reasonable decisions in the career,” he said.
“In the past we had athletes or boxers signing contracts that they didn’t understand and tie themselves to something that they don’t understand, so we want to commit ourselves in helping the boxers in school and it is very possible for the boxers to save the two.”
