FEDERICK Chipasha says the ruling PF is sinking.
Leading several Kazungula youths that defected from the ruling PF and joined the UPND, Chipasha said the PF’s future was very slim.
He said the ruling party was divided and members were leaving on a daily basis.
“This is the right time to join the UPND. The UPND is key to national economic and social prosperity. The boat is sinking and we don’t want to sink with it,” said Chipasha.
Receiving several PF defectors from Livingstone and Kazungula districts at Tuswangane Recreation Club on Sunday, UPND Southern Province chairperson Billiard Makwembo urged the members not to be afraid but mobilise the party especially at ward levels.
“There is hunger in the country all because of the PF. They have failed to run the country. The UPND will liberate the country and HH (Hakainde Hichilema) is ready to do that,” he told the cheering crowd.
“Southern Province is under lock, we have locked it away from the PF. We need to triple our votes in Southern Province and our target in 2021 is 1.5 million. Let’s work together with one voice.” Makwembo, who called for unity, said the UPND would hold intraparty elections before 2021.
He added that Hichilema would form government in 2021 even if the PF did not like it.
“Things are so bad and I am seeing someone running away before 2021 (in reference to President Edgar Lungu),” said Makwembo.
And Livingstone district PF information and publicity secretary Philimon Musonda said with the current hardships being experienced by Zambians, it was very difficult to support or defend the PF.
Musonda said all those that had made a mistake of ditching the UPND and joined the PF should return.
He said things were so bad with the massive load-shedding which was affecting small businesses such as butcheries and barbershops.
“Everybody is complaining especially in compounds. So how can you support such a party? Let’s support HH,” said Musonda.
Former Kariba Ward councillor Friday Nkonde said come rain or sunshine, Hichilema would form government in 2021.
“No amount of pressure or intimidation by the PF will stop HH from forming government in 2021,” said Nkonde.
