IN-FORM Zambia Women National Team has made it to the top five CAF shortlist for the national team of the year.
According to the shortlist of nominees from various categories for the 28th edition of the annual CAF Awards was unveiled on Tuesday, December 3 following the completion of the first phase of the voting.
The Copper Queens who are 180 minutes away from an historic Olympic spot with Cameroon standing in their way have made it to the top five.
The shortlist of nominees was decided upon by votes from a CAF Technical and Development Committee and a panel of media experts with emphasis on the nominees’ performance of during the year under review, 2019.
The final phase of voting for the men’s and women’s African Player of the Year, as well as the male and female coach of the year will be selected by head coaches/technical directors and captains of senior national teams from CAF member associations.
The award winners for each category will be announced during the CAF Awards ceremony on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at the Albatros Citadel Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada, Egypt.
The Copper Queens are in women’s national team of the year alongside Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria and South Africa.
Shepolopolo boss Bruce Mwape is also up for the running for women national team coach of the year alongside Alain Djeumfa of Cameroon, Clementine Toure of Côte d’Ivoire, Desiree Ellis of South Africa, and Thomas Dennerby of Nigeria.
