HAKAINDE Hichilema has wondered how President Edgar Lungu can claim to hate corruption when he is at the centre of it.
During the commemoration of the International Anti-Corruption Day at the Showgrounds, President Lungu said global efforts point to the direction that corruption was one of the biggest threats to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals.
“We should all reject corruption, hate it with a passion and report all suspicious acts to law enforcement agencies. Let us all do more, even at individual level. The fight against corruption begins with me, it begins with you. We should not just complain and do nothing about it. We should all take action, the time is now. The question is what action are you going to take against corruption? That is the question I pose to you today. Let us all unite against corruption, for the attainment of the much-desired corruption-free Zambia,” said President Lungu.
But Hichilema speaking on Radio Phoenix’s Let the People Talk programme yesterday said President Lungu was lying about hating corruption.
“Yesterday, someone was talking about hating corruption, how can you hate corruption when you are at the centre of it? That’s a lie, madimbeka, bufi, wabeja, you can’t fight corruption when you are at the centre of it, it’s not possible, who are they lying to?” Hichilema, president of the opposition UPND, said.
He said a normal leader would not promote the concept of ‘Uubomba mwibala, alya Mwibala’ as seen by President Edgar Lungu.
“Have you ever seen a normal leader promoting the concept of ‘Uubomba mwibala, alya Mwibala’?”Hichilema asked.
And Hichilema said PF had no credibility to renegotiate debt.
He said he talks to international lenders everyday and they had indicated that the PF government lacked integrity and investor confidence.
Hichilema said currently no normal would not shout ‘Pabwato’ owing to the bad standard of living that had seen even PF cadres fighting for food at traditional ceremonies.
“We know who owns this debt, we have talked to them and have agreed that HH and UPND when you come in we agree to restructure this debt. For now who are they going to restructure it with because the people who are supposed to serve Zambia are the ones who pushed an expensive debt for corruption reasons so that they could benefit from it, they have taken the money,” Hichilema said.
“They cannot restructure with the PF because they are the ones who drew the high cost debt. Why they did it is because they wanted to steal the money. Are you not surprised that people who in 2015 were only worth K2 million, today are worth more, are you not surprised? So your money as citizens is in their pockets. The PF have no credibility, in the eyes of lenders they have no credibility. I am being honest with you, me I talk to these lenders, they even said ‘HH we can’t sit the way we are seated with you with those people what are we going to talk about’.”
Hichilema said the PF had been increasing the cost of government instead of reducing it.
He further said the ‘clowns’ benefitting in PF were just consumers instead of producers.
He also vowed to sell the new Presidential jet as it was not necessary owing to the financial crisis in the country.
He said the money used to buy the Presidential jet was as good as flashed in the toilet because it added no value to the lives of Zambians.
Hichilema said he had already started looking for the buyer for the Presidential jet.
“I will sell that piece of metal and use the money, we have already started selling the Presidential jet. We are already looking for a buyer, that’s how advanced we are. We will sell the plane because someone misused that money,” he said.
Hichilema further disclosed that he had written to the Chinese not to go ahead with the construction of the controversial and expensive Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway at the cost of US$1.2 billion.
Meanwhile, Hichilema said there would be no playing Kalulu games on Constitution Amendment Bill 2019.
He said the process and content of the Constitution Amendment Bill 2019 was wrong and lacked consensus and inclusiveness.
He wondered how PF government deputy chief whip Tutwa Ngulube had embarked on a campaign to mislead Zambians on the recommendations of the parliamentary select committee, which he said, were deceptive.
“That Tutwa boy was not correct, the parliamentary select committee recommendations are not binding, it’s deceptive. They are playing the Kalulu mentality and hoodwinking the people…it is not possible to relegate the constitution making process to a PF activity,” Hichilema said.
“Bringing a broader number of people who own the constitution was not done, it was a PF orchestration and no playing Kalulu games can change what this animal was, terrible animal. I heard some MP who is supposed to be educated, who went to a radio station with Linda Kasonde and went and waved the parliamentary select committee’s recommendation as Bill 10, what a cheat, disgraceful. The parliamentary select committee’s recommendation is not Bill 10 for heaven’s sake. Bill 10 is the Bill that was presented, which included bad things.”
And Hichilema has called on Zambians to join Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II’s fight against ‘greedy’ PF
He said the senior chief had been fought alone for too long and needed the support of all well meaning Zambians.
Hichilema, who refuted assertions that he also has land in Forest reserve 27, said a President was supposed to inspire people rather than defend an illegality as witnessed on the land in Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II’s area.
He said lands minister Jean Kapata lied through her teeth when she claimed that he owned land in Forest reserve 27.
