NKANA coach Manfred Chabinga on Sunday expressed happiness that his team beat Nkwazi and return to the top four bracket.
After last week’s 3-0 loss to Power Dynamos, Nkana fans were left reeling and their team was desperate to recover but was facing an opponent in Nkwazi that had gone 10 games without a win and was equally desperate to move out of the relegation zone.
Nkwazi had a fair share of possession and opportunities but the Nkana defence stood strong to deny the visitors that much sought goal.
Nkana’s dominance paid off when bullish striker Idris Mbombo outwitted his marker in the box and was taken down resulting in a penalty that man-of-the-match Shadreck Musonda converted.
Musonda’s penalty would eventually turn out to be the match winner.
“We needed this win today. We needed a result after losing 3-0 to Power Dynamos and I am happy the players responded. People were not happy after we lost to Power and were desperate for the win. We have two very difficult games before we reach halfway mark,” said Chabinga. “The next game against NAPSA will be very difficult. They are above us on the table which means they are a good team, so it will be tough.”
Nkwazi has continued struggling since Chris Kaunda was sacked and the police outfit is in desperate need of points to avoid relegation.
In another game played on Sunday, Forest Rangers gave away a first half lead to draw 1-1 with visiting Red Arrows at Levy Mwanawasa in Ndola.
