PARAMOUNT Chief Mpezeni on New Year’s Day graced the K35,000 rich Luangeni Cup final which was won by Ngiyelo Warriors of chief Maguya’s area.
Ngiyero Warriors beat Real Mpezeni one nil in the finals to win economist Noel Nkhoma sponsored Luangeni Cup.
The winners walked away with K1,200, a trophy and a ball while the runners up got K900 and a ball.
Before the finals, elderly men from around Feni area also featured in the third and forth play off, which was more of a curtain riser.
Paramount chief Mpezeni congratulated both teams for putting up a good performance in the finals.
He said football promotes unity among the people.
Chief Maguya said there was no winner or loser in the game, which met its objectives.
He thanked Nkhoma for sponsoring the tournament.
And Nkhoma commended the traditional leaders in the Ngoni land for allowing him to sponsor the tournament.
He said the purpose of the tournament which would be held every year was to promote oneness among the people and to appreciate the leadership of the royal leaders.
“This tournament was also meant to take the youths away from very negative of alcohol, drugs and also HIV and AIDS. So by this tournament, we are creating some kind of entertainment again and we can see from the talent that we saw today that we can build another national team from here if the skills that we have seen can be harnessed,” Nkhoma said.
He urged the youths to be disciplined and concentrate on their education because they were future leaders.
He thanked FAZ president Andrew Kamanga for his support towards the hosting of the tournament.
Nkhoma also thanked Zambia/Malawi for helping him host the tournament.
The tournament was staged at Maulao ground in Feni area.
