RECENTLY appointed Zambia national team coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has commenced his duties with a local camp on the Copperbelt.

Micho summoned 64 players with half drawn from the Super League while the other batch is drawn from the National Division One.

Speaking after Tuesday’s morning session, Micho said he is happy with the character of the players.

“I am very happy. I’m personally satisfied with the hunger from the players. The passion of the game from the Copperbelt players it’s really special, coming to lead the work here with the players that we have we have already accomplished what we wanted,” he said.

“We wanted to assess players’ principles, what are their qualities, what are their strengths, weaknesses…so we can say we had a very successful two days.”

Micho adds that players are training for a place in African Nations Championship (CHAN) team.
“We have players in three brackets and bracket number one is they have proven and they are knocking on the door for the CHAN team. We have second players bracket: we have players that we need to see and assess more and players need to develop themselves for them to be candidates of the national team. Anyhow every single player has been recommended by coaches, we wanted to bring the coaches into the frame of the national team, because a brand called the Zambian football coaches is working with a brand called Zambian football players. This is what we really wanted to test, to try and experiment and we are happy with the two days,” said Micho.

The Copperbelt camp caters for players from provinces perched on the Northern half of the country while another camp in Lusaka will cover nearer regions.

Super League and National Division One teams have been segmented according to their regions.
The camp will shift to Lusaka next week with the catchment spreading to other regions.

After the two camps, the technical bench will consolidate the team into the best of the local players to be fused into the Chipolopolo and also the African Nations Championship (CHAN) squad.
