SPORTS minister Emmanuel Mulenga has summoned Football Association of Zambia officials for a meeting today at 11:00 hours.
According to sources, the call has unsettled FAZ because the agenda is unknown.
But Mulenga when contacted said the meeting was ‘consultative’ in nature without specifying the nature of consultations.
“It’s a consultative meeting,” Mulenga responded.
According to the source, FAZ president Andrew Kamanga, vice-president Rix Mweemba, general secretary Adrian Kashala and his deputy Joseph Chimpambwe will all be in attendance.
Asked about the nature of consultations, the source said: “You know FAZ are the custodians of football so, the minister told the director to call for a meeting in view of the recent developments.”
“There is just speculation that it maybe to do with recent developments at CAS where Kalusha [Bwalya] has taken his case or is it to do with the league re-starting, or the court cases or maybe the infamous emergency council meeting called by the minister. But what we know is FAZ are very strong in defence of their constitution and anything to arm-twist them may not yield anything unless it’s truly consultation on a progressive issue,” another ministry source said.
