EIZ blames Iolanda water project delay on failure by govt to release funding

The Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) says it has established that to date, the client for the Iolanda Water Facility Project in Kafue has not been able to provide the necessary funding to the project resulting in the project stalling.

President and chairperson of the Engineering Council Eugene Haazele has implored the government to play its role and ensure that the project is completed and starts serving Zambians.

Haazele said the Institution had noted the sentiments expressed by President Edgar Lungu over the Iolanda Water Facility Project in Kafue.

He said EIZ shares the concerns of President Lungu that such an important and expensive facility had been completed but power supply which was an important component of the project has not been included in the scope.

“The EIZ has established, through discussions with the implementing agents that the design and build contract placed the responsibility of power supply on the client: Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection,” said Haazele in a statement.

“The EIZ has also established that to date, the client has not been able to provide the necessary funding to the project resulting in the project stalling.

The EIZ therefore, implores the Ministry to play its role and ensure that the project is completed and starts serving the people of Zambia.”
