THE 13th Patriots for Economic Progress fire render peaceful protest that was disrupted along Cairo Road by suspected PF cadres last year, resumes on Tuesday July 21.
In a statement yesterday, PeP leader Sean Tembo said the peaceful protest would commence from the exact spot along Cairo Road, where the PF cadres attacked his team on November 28, 2019.
He said as planned, the procession would proceed along Church Road to Independence Avenue via the High Court Roundabout to Alick Nkhata Road, then join Thabo Mbeki Road all the way to the Great East Road and end at Arcades Shopping Mall bus stop.
“As Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP), we wish to take this opportunity to inform our members, supporters, well-wishers and the nation at large that the PeP 13th Fire Tender Peaceful Protest that was disrupted along Cairo Road by the Patriotic Front Lusaka Province chairman, Mr Paul Moonga and his colleagues, will resume on Tuesday, 21st July 2020,” Tembo said.
He said before the procession he would address PeP protestors for 30 minutes, at the scene of the PF attack along Cairo Road, before proceeding with the protest.
“The protest will commence at 10:00 hours sharp and is expected to be concluded by 14:00 hours. Social-distancing guidelines and other health precautions will be adhered to in accordance with COVID-19 regulations,” Tembo said.
He requested President Edgar Lungu to advise Moonga and his cadres to stay away from “this continuation of the 13thFire Tender Peaceful Protest” that was disrupted last year.
Further, Tembo urged Lusaka Province police commissioner Nelson Phiri not to withdraw his officers along the way like he did on November 28, 2019, thereby giving room for protestors to be attacked.
