TOURISM Association Abercorn Chapter chairperson Geoffrey Chellah has praised government for “opening up the northern circuit for tourism”.
In an interview, Chellah, who is also proprietor of Lake Chila Lodge in Mbala, said the tourism industry is growing steadily in the region.
The northern circuit covers Muchinga, Northern and Luapula provinces.
“This government, it has changed the face of Mbala in the hospitality industry. Ukutasha ico wamwene cisuma (It’s good to give credit where it’s due),” he said. “I’ve built another lodge at Kalambo Falls which is called Great Kalambo Falls Lodge under PF government. They’ve taken power to Kalambo Falls under PF government. At least we should thank the Edgar Chagwa Lungu government. They’re opening the Northern Circuit to tourism.”
He outlined other developments that have made the region more accessible for tourism.
Chellah appealed to other investors to invest in the area.
“There’s [communication] network at Kalambo Falls under PF government. They’re doing a road from Mbala to Kasesha, which is a tourist road under PF government. Again, they’re doing Mbala/Kalambo Falls Road which is a tourist road,” said Chellah. “Again, there’s Chisanza which goes to Lake Tanganyika, it’s a tourist road. Again, there’s Mbala/Kasaba Bay Road, they’re also working on it. This is the road we have been crying for, years and years, but it has happened in PF government. We need to have a boat cruise the way our friends have in Samfya. We’re also appealing to investors to build a five-star hotel at Kasaba Bay.”
