SOCIALIST Party president Fred M’membe says Prince Philip will be remembered for his lifelong service to the Commonwealth.
Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, died on Friday at the age of 99.
“It is to Her Majesty, and her family and the British people that our thoughts and those of the Commonwealth must turn. Because they have lost not just a much-loved and highly respected public figure, but also a devoted family man. So we mourn today with Her Majesty the Queen and the British people. We offer our condolences to the Queen and to all her family,” he said. “And we give thanks, as a Zambian political party and members of the Commonwealth, for the extraordinary life and work of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He will be remembered for his lifelong service to the Commonwealth.”
Dr M’membe said Prince Philip had a distinguished career in the military and was at the forefront of many community service initiatives.
“May his soul rest in peace,” said Dr M’membe.
