NATIONAL Assembly of the People´s Power of Cuba president Esteban Lazo Hernández says he feels fortunate and honored to have been able to witness and verify the greatness of Dr Kenneth Kaunda.
Lazo said it was with deep regret that Cuba had received the sad news of the death of the founding father and first president of Zambia, Dr Kaunda.
Dr Kaunda passed on last Thursday, aged 97.
Lazo said Dr Kaunda was an enduring friend of Cuba who contributed in an extraordinary way to the construction of the fraternal relationships that unite the two countries.
“In this moment of consternation, I am overwhelmed by the memories of the exchanges, chats that I had – the opportunity to hold with him – and I feel fortunate and honoured to have been able to witness, to verify the greatness of this extraordinary African leader,” said Lazo. “On behalf of the legislators/representatives of the National Assembly of the People´s Power of the Republic of Cuba and my own behalf, I express to you our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to our brother countrymen of Zambia, as well as our unconditional solidarity. Receive the testimony of my highest consideration and esteem.”
